Gastropoda process

Just a note - I'm taking these pictures with whatever is available at the time, be it camera, cell phone, webcam, et cetera, so the colors and quality will be distorted most of the time.  I'll have a nice, higher-quality picture for the final version.

The sketch I'll be working from.  There were a couple more pages to this tune but I didn't include them.

(obviously a very early WIP shot)
Finally beginning a new piece, now that the semester has finished!

Simple collage this time, made entirely of pages torn out from a copy of The Enemy by Lee Child, which was falling apart after changing hands many times and which I fished out of the recycling bin. The ripples from the glue aren't quite as pronounced as they look in this admittedly bad photo.

Misted with three different colors of spraypaint for that classic K Cross look.
Also distorted because I am not a photographer.

Detail from "Grotesque"

Details from "Percussion"

Percussion

July 2011
Drawn on four of my brother's discarded drum heads.
Based on but not specifically about the bombing of Dresden, inspired by Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut.
(fireplace not included)

Reptilian Brain

June 2011

Arthropoda

May 2011

Grotesque

March 2011
24"x48"
Inspired by Renaissance "grotesques"

Angelus in America

March 2011
Diptych, each 20"x36"
Based on the shapes in the Dalí painting "Archaeological Reminiscences," which was in turn based on the shapes in the Millet painting "The Angelus."  I was wanting to draw something distinctly American (and positive), so of course what immediately came to mind was Jazz, and then someone's interpretation of the Dalí painting as a man playing the saxophone when I was in college.

Abstract 1

February 2011
31"x23" (at the widest points)
Drawn on the inside of a shelf torn out from the corner my kitchen.

Obiter Dictum

My final series at Ball State.  Each of these pieces was based on images that came to mind from the patterns in wood grain, floor tiles, and other textured objects.  "Obiter Dictum" is a Latin phrase roughly meaning "passing observation."
